Palm Beach Gardens

A golf-and-parks city north of West Palm Beach, laid out along PGA Boulevard, with gated club communities, newer neighborhoods to the west, and the beaches of Juno and Jupiter a short drive east.

The local’s take

Palm Beach Gardens, as I see it

Palm Beach Gardens was planned in the late 1950s by John D. MacArthur as a city of gardens and golf, and that's largely what it became. PGA Boulevard is the spine: PGA National Resort at the west end, where the PGA Tour stops every winter, the Gardens Mall and Downtown Palm Beach Gardens in the middle, and Intracoastal-side neighborhoods at the east end near the Juno Beach line.

The city doesn't have oceanfront of its own; Juno Beach and Jupiter's beaches are a short drive east on Donald Ross Road or PGA Boulevard. What it does have is a long list of gated communities, many of them built around golf courses: PGA National, BallenIsles, Mirasol, Frenchman's Reserve, Old Palm, and Eastpointe among them, plus non-golf neighborhoods like Evergrene and Steeplechase, where the lots are an acre or more.

West of the Turnpike, the city has grown into new territory. Alton along Donald Ross Road and Avenir on Northlake Boulevard are recent master-planned communities with new construction, and they've shifted where a lot of people picture 'the Gardens' being. Sandhill Crane, the city's public golf course, is out there too.

Living here

What daily life in Palm Beach Gardens looks like

Lifestyle
PGA National's courses and spa, the Cognizant Classic tournament in late winter, the Gardens Mall and Downtown Palm Beach Gardens, Gardens Park's ballfields, the Sandhill Crane public golf course, Loggerhead Marinelife Center next door in Juno Beach, and the beaches from Juno to Jupiter.
Housing types
Single-family homes in gated golf and lake communities from the 1980s through the 2010s; townhomes and condos near PGA Boulevard and the mall; acre-plus homes in Steeplechase, Caloosa, and the horse-friendly neighborhoods along Northlake Boulevard; and new construction in Alton and Avenir west of the Turnpike, from townhomes to larger single-family plans.
HOA landscape
Nearly every neighborhood in the city is deed-restricted. Several golf communities require club membership at purchase, with initiation fees and annual dues on top of the HOA; others make it optional. Newer communities like Alton and Avenir have HOAs plus community development district assessments on the tax bill. I'll lay out the full carrying cost before you commit.
Getting around
I-95 at PGA Boulevard, Northlake Boulevard, and Donald Ross Road; Florida's Turnpike at PGA Boulevard; President Donald J. Trump International Airport (formerly Palm Beach International) and downtown West Palm Beach are south via I-95. Jupiter is just north on I-95 or Alternate A1A.
